Chapter Name: Barbershop Harmony Society - Kitsap County Chapter (C027)

 

Chorus Name: Kitsap Chordsmen Barbershop Chorus

 

Affiliation: The chapter is a member of the Barbershop Harmony Society (formerly known as the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America (S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A.). Kitsap County Chapter is a part of the Society’s Evergreen District covering Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, British Columbia and Alberta.

 

Size: The Kitsap County Chapter currently has 49 members. Membership in the Evergreen District is about 1,992 members in 61 chapters. Membership in the society is about 30,000 in more than 820 chapters in the United States and Canada.

 

Date Founded: Kitsap County Chapter was founded in 1978.

Activities: The Chordsmen have an active schedule, with at least one major show each year, plus several smaller shows at various locations. Recent performances include a full show for the Port Ludlow Community, sponsored by the Port Ludlow Arts Council. Other performances include singing for the Puget Sound Blood Bank in Silverdale, Military Appreciation Day at Kitsap Mall, benefits for Bremerton Foodline and Capri Heart & Lung Institute, joint shows with the Tacoma Totemaires, Navy Band NW at Winterfest at the Seattle Center House, Bremerton Symphony and the Kitsap Chorale, plus two chorus competitions, many singing valentines and many Christmas Carols at local nursing homes and retirement centers.

 

Charitable Support: The Kitsap Chordsmen is a nonprofit organization and supports other organizations including The Harmony Foundation and The Bud Lebo Memorial Fund. We also help young men and women learn to sing by providing scholarships to Harmony Explosion Camp held each summer in Tacoma.
